Celebrating International Women's Day 2023

Time & Leisure celebrated #IWD23 in style with a networking breakfast featuring some of the most inspiring local women. With event partners Merton Chamber of Commerce, we brought together a host of entrepreneurs, local charities, businesses, creatives and people from all walks of life from SW London and Surrey to ‘embrace equity’, the theme of this year’s global event.

Our networking breakfast, at The Alexandra pub in Wimbledon, started with excellent coffee and delicious pastries from The Bakehouse in Putney, whilst our guests mingled.

We then heard from Merton Chamber’s Charlotta Harbour who welcomed the group, before passing over to our speaker Isabel Losada, author of The Joyful Environmentalist, who had plenty of practical tips on how we can all make our lives a little bit more eco-friendly.

The message of #IWD23 is to show that equality is not enough – the key is equity:

“Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.”

Our event ended with a “self-hug” to strike the #EmbraceEquity pose, as millions of others did the same around the world.

Thanks to the Alexandra Pub for hosting, Rebecca Cresta for the great photography, our event partners Merton Chamber and every single woman for making the early morning start and endeavouring through the snow!

“It was a great event, Lucy. There was such a buzz in the room. I had some really good conversations. Thanks so much!”
